Not related to this gig guide, but thought I’d share this, an
excellent acoustic set from Stephen Malkmus (part one of seven):

Has anyone heard the album “Face the Truth”? Worth getting?
Definitely worthwhile if you like the other Malkmus solo albums – in general anyone in to Pavement should give his solo stuff a try, though there certainly are Pavement fans who don’t like it. I think my fave is “Pig Lib”. Also, there’s a new one due out soon.
I’m presently listening to the stream of Malkmus’s newie – Real Emotional Trash – through Matador’s Buy Early Get Now scheme. Basically you have to order through a participating US online order site (I went through NY’s Other Music this time) and as a bonus you get a live show download, some B-side downloads, and a poster.
From first listen and without digging into any exotic superlatives from the ol’ backpocket, I’d say this one’s a cool (as in laidback), fairly prog-rocky, Malkmus-type of triumph. In short, it’s definitely worth getting (even though I haven’t got to its end yet).
BTW, I’m not sure how much credence one should give my advice. I’d recommend _all_ of Malkmus’s albums, even his oft-maligned solo debut which is still pretty great (except, perhaps, for his almost-mullet hairstyle on the cover).
A correction to my previous comment: according to the BEGN website, Adelaide’s Big Star are a ‘friend of BEGN’ which implies that you could pre-order through them for the bonus downloads too (rather than go through a US store). So to look to buy the release with bonuses locally, check out http://www.buyearlygetnow.com and click ‘Friends of BEGN’.
