Autistic Daughters tomorrow night

I’ve had a copy of dB lying around but hadn’t had a chance to read it because I was busy marking algebra assignments – so this gig is a bit short notice (and really should have been in the final gig guide email).

Autistic Daughters play at the FAD Cafe tomorrow night (Sat 13th) with support from Hit the Jackpot and Interzone Express. Autistic Daughters are the trio of Dean Roberts, Werner Dafeldecker and Martin Brandlmayr. I’ve seen the first two play an improv show before, and would be interested in seeing more.
Also, Roberts plays at the Exeter tonight with support from Kynan Lawlor.

In other gig news, Camera Obscura will play at Rocket Bar on the 28th of Feb. I don’t know them too well, but I have heard a track on Rough Trade’s Indiepop compilation and it’s not bad – sounds like they won’t be a million miles from the sound of their compatriots Belle & Sebastian, so I may well be keen.

Hey Stu, I sent you a couple of tracks by Camera Obscura, possibly on the Jan Jelinek / Triosk disc.

  2. Stu says:

Ah yes, I remember now, I’ll dig out that cd and have a listen, thanks Derek.

I’ve got Let’s Get Out Of This Country and rated Lloyd, I’m Ready To Be Heartbroken as one of my 10 fave songs in Triple J’s Hottest 100.

A great album and I’m surprised they’re playing Adelaide as it didn’t really set this town alight (at least I didn’t think so as I never saw it in Big Star – will have to wait and see what Rocket Bar’s like when they play). Reminds me a little of Deadstar but other obvious comparisons are, of course, Belle & Sebastian. I reckon Let’s… has one of the best album endings I’ve heard for a while. It just has a beautiful finish.

    Ummm, in summary: recommended gig!

OK, with a recommendation from The Don I’ll definitely have to consider going to this gig.

I checked out the hottest 100 list, there were like 8 Jet songs. I don’t think any further comment on the matter is necessary.
I think as usual for Adelaide people the 3D top 100+1 is the better option.
